Wedding themes for 2020

Wedding themes for 2020

To organise a wedding that reflects your image, you need to set the tone of the score like a conductor. In the language of events, this means choosing a theme - bucolic, traditional, tropical... - from which your entire decoration will then flow. The theme of a wedding is a real thread running through your event, a choice that needs to be matured... So to help you see things more clearly, here are a few tips, as well as an analysis of the major trends of the moment.

1/ What you need to know before you start...

Whether it is vintage, baroque or country, the theme of a wedding allows you to give a line of conduct to your decoration, and thus to confer a certain harmony to your event on the day. A framework that will help you to structure your ideas and to choose more easily the place of the event, the colours of the wedding, which type of decoration to rent...
It should be noted, however, that the decoration of a wedding depends largely on the budget you wish to allocate to it. In fact, personalising an event down to the smallest detail represents a significant cost. It's up to you to determine your priorities beforehand, bearing in mind that you may well opt for DIY for certain decorative elements. For a rustic wedding, for example, you can easily create a cosy corner by collecting a few pallets, some straw and a bunch of cushions.
If a consultant can obviously guide you according to your tastes and desires, the theme of a wedding is nevertheless a very personal choice. "In fact, most clients already know what they want," says Romane, a consultant at Atawa. The objective is to organise a ceremony that reflects you. So if you're not sure, why not check out Instagram and Pinterest? By consulting inspirational boards, it will be easier for you to create your own moodboard.

2/ Wedding themes: what are the current trends?

Bucolic, classic, vintage, winter, romantic, country, DIY, retro, tropical, bohemian chic, traditional... There are a multitude of different themes that come back into fashion in a cyclical way, depending on the fashions and the years.
In 2020, the trend is "natural". At the moment, wedding decorations are focusing on "green power"; hanging floral arrangements; "mexi-folk" with its colourful flowers; "Scandinavian rustic", which is authentic and minimalist, or "woody", which combines wood and plants.
There are also a few timeless wedding themes that are in vogue:
- The "country" or "bucolic" theme: This evokes the countryside and nature, and uses materials such as wood or linen; flowers from the fields; garlands in the guinguette style; foliage; straw bales; wine barrels; banquets; baskets...

- The "Bohemian" or "Romantic" theme: This theme is delicate and subtle, with cream or champagne colours, a sober and elegant table decoration, and meticulous attention to the lighting... For example, use garlands inside the tent and subdued lighting outside.
- The "chic" or "royal" theme: A tent set up near a castle seems to be the best solution if the budget allows it. In this case, go for an "imperial" decoration, for example by renting chandeliers and Napoleon chairs.

3/ How far can you go with your theme?

Depending on your wishes, you can adapt your theme down to the smallest detail, for example by creating a graphic charter to be used on the invitations, the menu, the table plan, the thank-you notes, etc.
If you are organising an "ethnic" wedding, why not use Wax fabric for the centrepieces and napkin rings, and use the same motifs for your thank you card? Or if you want a "jungle" wedding, why not transform the poles of the Bamboo tent into palm trees to immerse your guests in an exotic atmosphere?
